How to connect to an UltraScan LIMS server:

UltraScan is designed to work with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This is typically a cloud hosted database backend that can be accessed through the public UltraScan Science Gateway resources funded by the National Science Foundation. Please note that the free and publically funded UltraScan LIMS cloud service is only available to educational institutions and government and not-for-profit organizations. Commercial entities can utilize the same service with the UltraScan-in-a-Box servers supported by AUC Solutions.

Finding your LIMS server and registering your account:
You can find an index of publically available LIMS systems at this website. If your institution is listed, select the link from the index and select "Login" from the left menubar. As a new user, select the link "Sign up for a new account" at the bottom of the page. Enter the captcha information and register your LIMS account on the next page. Finally, click on "Create New Account" at the bottom of the page. An email will be sent to the provided email address with a validation link (you will need to click on it) and a temporary password for your new account. Use your email address and your temporary account to log into your account. Once logged in, you can update your LIMS account password by selecting "Change my Info" and entering your new password (twice) into the web form, as well as any other details that need to be updated.

Setting the user level:
The default user level only allows read-only access. To be able to link the account to your UltraScan installation, and to submit jobs to the supercomputers, you will need to have userlevel 2 or 3. Contact your local UltraScan LIMS admin for elevation of your privileges on this system. If you don't know who your local admin is, and if you cannot locate a LIMS instance for your institution, please feel free to contact us.

Connecting your LIMS account to UltraScan:
After your user level has been upgraded to level 2 or 3, you should log out and log back into your account to actualize the settings, and to gain access to your new resource. You will notice additional menu items in the left menu bar. Select "Database Login Info" and transfer the contents from this website to the UltraScan "Edit:Preferences:Database Preferences". Test the network connection before saving the new entry to your list of LIMS databases. After that, UltraScan can utilize the UltraScan LIMS cloud server for data storage and job submission.
