  1. Does UltraScan support direct data acquisition from the Optima AUC? - Yes, UltraScan imports data directly from the Optima AUC and can fully control the Optima AUC (including remote shutdown) directly from UltraScan’s data acquisition module. There are two data acquisition modules available, the first supports Research and Development applications, and provides direct import of newly acquired data into the UltraScan LIMS database, without manual effort. The second module support an automated cGMP workflow which not only imports data into the LIMS database, but also automatically edits and analyzes the data without manual intervention, and the provides user-configurable GMP reports. This module also supports audit trails and electronic signatures. Both modules require an UltraScan-in-a-Box integration with the Optima AUC instrument.

  2. What file format does UltraScan use? - UltraScan uses the openAUC file format. It is a binary format that is open source and supports all operating systems, data acquisition systems, radial and wavelength data, and is extremely efficient in loading speed and storage needs. Importantly, this format uses double-precision floating point formats for numerical data, preserving the accuracy of the primary data collected from the Optima AUC. The file format was published in:

    • Cölfen H, Laue TM, Wohlleben W, Schilling K, Karabudak E, Langhorst BW, Brookes E, Dubbs B, Zollars D, Rocco M, Demeler B. The Open AUC Project. Eur Biophys J. 2010 Feb;39(3):347-59. doi: 10.1007/s00249-009-0438-9. Epub 2009 Mar 19. PMID: 19296095; PMCID: PMC2812709.

  3. Can UltraScan read tar.gz files from the Optima AUC? - Yes, UltraScan includes a conversion tool that will convert tar.gz archives created by the web-based Beckman-Coulter data acquisition program into the OpenAUC format used by UltraScan.

  4. Can UltraScan convert OpenAUC data into the legacy Beckman format? - Yes, UltraScan can convert and export OpenAUC formatted AUC data into either interference, fluorescence, absorbance or intensity (if the original data were acquired in intensity mode) legacy formatted files for consumption by other third party programs.
